So another short read done today. And it’s another book by Neil Gaiman titled “The Ocean at the End of the Lane”.
The book follows a unnamed man who has returned to his old home, in order to attend a funeral, where spent his time as a child, . A place that was at one alive with magic an monsters and also a place that is part of past that is frighteningly real.
That is pretty much the bare bones of what the story is about. But this is Neil Gaiman and there is much more to it than that.
This novel acts as a reflection on childhood and memory, and also of wonder, friendship and sacrifice. This book has a lot of impact and emotional weight to it. Sometimes it is joyful, sometimes it is frightening and sometimes it can be sad. And all it is done all quite simply in the way that only Neil Gaiman could do it.
Yes the novel is on the short side, but this is one big story that I’ve had the greatest pleasure to ever read. So if you ever come across a copy of this at your bookstore, pick it up immediately! Neil Gaiman’s brand of fantasy is always a treat to read!
