I love books and I love museums..I’m looking for a suggestion that would help me enjoy museums even more. For example, I’d read Laxness before going to Iceland, Molokai before Hawaii, and Centennial before Colorado. Thank you!

At the risk of suggesting an obvious one: *From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler* by E. L. Konigsburg (to read before, after or during a visit to the Metropolitan Museum of Art)
(I love your question!)
All the Beauty in the World is a memoir of a young man whose brother dies and he quits his job and becomes a guard at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. He discuss his job, the museum and art as he also processes this grief over about a decade. It’s a very accessible introduction to museums and art for someone just coming to it.
