Zombies!

I’ve watched pretty much every zombie tv series, and a lot of popular zombie films, and now I want to find zombie books. My favourites have so far been when the Main character is in a profession that directly deals with the zombies (Science, Medicine, Military etc…) So I’d like more of those. A series would be nice, I like being invested in the characters before they start getting killed off. A relationship that grows is also nice, platonic or romantic. As long as it stays a subplot

Subgenres of any kind are welcome, even comedy. And the zombies don’t even need to be called zombies, as long as it follows the formula of being infectious. I’m a bit iffy when it comes to sentient zombies, as long as they are still a threat and not just misunderstood mutated humans, I’m down. None of that zombie boyfriend/girlfriend stuff.
