It was a book I read when I was very young, it was a story about a boy that found (if I can remember correctly) a little knome that lived in the walls of his house and they became friends. One of them was named Nils ( can’t remember if it was the boy or the gnome) And I remember the boy saving bits of his food for the gnome…for some reason a piece of cheese comes to mind…I think the gnome left at some point. I don’t remember any more than that, but I do remember how much I loved that book. Any help is so appreciated, thank you in advance!

I think you might he looking for Astrid Lindgren’z book “The Tomten”. It certainly shares some similarities including a boy named Nils!
