I’m open to short stories, novellas, novels.
I’m reading a collection by author Matthew Baker called “Why Visit America” that does this so well. Being John Malkovich and Severance are other forms of media that also do this. Another example is The Fireman by Joe Hill.
These are stories set in our contemporary world with all the familiar trappings, but one thing is “off” or weird or sci-fi. Sometimes it’s an accepted part of life, other times it arrives unannounced and people have to understand it and deal with it.
