This is a bit embarrassing but I’m in my late 20s and haven’t really gotten into reading much over the years. The last few years in particular, I’ve been wanting to read but was working full time, completely a college degree, moving house, and getting married and the only things I could read were academic papers and non-fiction. I’ve never really read fiction until the last month or so when my schedule finally started to clear.
So far I’ve read The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, and The Maid. I liked them both, particularly the first one.
I’m not from the states, but everything I seem to be consuming lately is very US-centric, so would really like to move away from that and read something that’s not based in America or has American characters.
Because I’m not an experienced reader, I’m looking for a real page turner. Something I can’t put down. Bonus points for unpredictable twists.
I just bought a kindle and signed up for unlimited (free trial) so would be great if it’s available there, otherwise I’m happy to purchase something good.
I’m not into fantasy or sci-fi, but open to other genres.
    Thank you!

    1. RadioactiveBarbie on

So this book I think is still in prime reading, which in turn makes it available on Kindle Unlimited: The Perfect Marriage by Jeneva Rose. It is a thriller, as is the other book I recommend (which the whole series is on KU), One Left Alive by Helen Phifer

    2. Well, this might be a a bit of a far reach, but is not sci-fi or fantasy. It’s more existentialist metafiction, and technically occurs in the US but if there was ever a book where that didn’t matter at all it would be remainder by Tom McCarthy. At least I couldn’t put it down. It is one of the most insane like I don’t know how to describe it other than that its kind of like Dostoyevsky or Sartre if you were ever into existentialist philosophy, but it’s a novel and without giving too much away but it’s best described as an exploration of brain damage from a first person perspective it’s very weird shit but I thought it was incredible and is the single most unique thing I’ve read that was written in the 21st-century
