Our 5th grader and I have been reading a bit of SciFi before bed. We just finished “Have Space Suit—Will Travel” by Heinlein.

We loved the “hard” sci-fi nature with serious science, clear young adult focus, and space theme.

However, there were two challenges: (1) the older pop culture references required semi-frequent Googling, and (2) the wildly irregular chapter length made it hard to have a satisfying pace of X chapters per night.

Other reads we’ve liked: Project Hail Mary, The Martian, and the Bobiverse books. But I’d like to aim for more YA books as bedtime reading.

    Thanks for any suggestions!
