Hi there, my first post here. I’ve recently got into the habit of reading for half an hour before bed each evening and I now miss it, having finished my previous book (Tattooist of Auschwitz) I was at Waterstones (book store in the UK) the other day and didn’t know what to look for exactly.
I’ve read a few sports Biographies/sports related in the past and enjoyed (Keane, Sir Alex Ferguson… possible Rio Ferdinand’s?) and Peter Crouch’s books and I do enjoy reading ‘behind the scenes’ on things that interest me. I have recently taken up American Football and got more into cycling, but don’t know any of the popular cyclists of the past to read their books or maybe even identify with them.
I have read SAS: Unsung Heroes (Basis for the ‘Band of Brothers’ TV Show) and enjoyed it, so I’m definitely open to something like this (UK military related, preferably)
I also thought ‘what fascinates me?’, and honestly the answer is money. My parents weren’t great with money so now I’ve overcorrected to the other end of the scale and micro-manage my finances. I was involved in the $GME story a few years ago and I would definitely be open to reading more about the under-hand tactics/behind the scenes/corruption that *may* go on behind financial markets. (I’m not looking for the books on “hOw tO mAkE miLLiOn$$$”, but books shedding light on the stuff we’re not supposed to know. I have heard of the Big Short but reviews weren’t too great so I delayed for further advice.
I’m into crypto but I haven’t read any books on it; only whitepapers.
I think I’ve tried non-fiction before, but I feel like I want to be picking up new information that may actually have some relevant use for me in the future, or helps me feel better informed about the past. ie, Tattooist of Auschwitz; yes it’s a novel but based on very real things. I have read the.. Doctor of Auschwitz’ (?) book by Mengele’s assistant.
So,
* Cycling/Football/American Football related (Patrice Evra’s may be on this list, actually)
* Military related (true stories, preferably UK related)
* Financial…. truth-bearing? Again, true stories.
I’ll save this for future so I hopefully end up with a bit of a list to read 🙂
Thank you!
