Hi everyone!
Does anyone know a book where the main character is not your typical hero but a very smart, calculating and manipulative villain/antihero with ambitions to become powerful/rise to power? Preferably a dark fantasy with magical powers involved. Something that would remind me of the Lord Voldemort’s backstory.

Grand admiral Thrawn in Timothy zahns heir to the empire trilogy is brilliant, cold, calculating and amasses power pretty much linearly throughout the trilogy. There is also plenty of magic (the force) involved in the books as well and some evilness to it.
Not exactly what you’re requesting but I think you might enjoy Harry Potter and the methods of rationality for its depiction of Voldemort. The main character also is calculating and manipulative, unfortunately going into “I am very smart” territory at times but I had a fun ride anyway.
