*The Plague Dogs* by Richard Adams is the saddest book I’ve ever read.
*Crime & Punishment* by Fyodor Dostoevsky is the book that affected my general mood the most.

James Salter has a book of short stories called “Last Night”. The book shares a title with the final story in the collection, and boy does it every suck the last bit of happiness out of you. Extremely well written though.

All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Marie Remarque. A novel / memoir about soldiers in WWI, when battles were still fought hand-to-hand. Incredible book, still so relevant.
Also his sequel, The Road Back, about soldiers returning home after the war. Blistering descriptions of men suffering from PTSD decades before the condition was identified.

When breath becomes air
Both books will hurt you to the core. At least they did with me. Very memorable books!
