Okay, so I’m a freelance writer in the B2B niche. I’m an ESL writer and most of my reading has been non-fiction through academic, self-help, business, marketing books, and blog posts. I also relied heavily on American and a few British sitcoms to understand the native speaking style.

I want to read more to improve my English, but I don’t want to read non-fiction because my brain needs some respite, and I don’t wanna read the same stuff over and over again.

My fiction reading so far starts and ends at Neil Gaiman’s Coraline. I would like to delve into reading some non-fiction books to improve my English, but I would like the books to be not dense and emotionally draining.

**I’d love to read comedy because the writing has to be snappy to stand out.** Kind folks of the sub, do you have any recommendations based on my needs? I would really appreciate a few to get started. Thanks for reading!

I started with Roald Dahl books, and still think they’re awesome. Honestly, the Harry Potter books are really neat as well, and you don’t need to finish the series- just sample a book or two, they’re fun. Terry Pratchett books are really funny- try ‘Guards Guards’. The Hobbit is another really fun book that reads very easily to me.
