Hi everyone, I’m looking for some good science fiction (or not) dystopia-esque books that give off similar vibes to the Hunger Games. I do not enjoy Divergent (not particularly creative, unlikable characters, limited stakes) or The Maze Runner (kind of in the same realm, where it’s like wow the main character magically has all these traits that perfectly fits the protagonist “role”? If that makes sense).

With the Hunger Games, I enjoyed the intensity, the world building, the characters (especially more of the reluctant hero aspect), the limited romance, the politics, etc.

I want to read Battle Royale, which is much more plot-wise similar to the Hunger Games, so that’s already on the list.

But really looking for well written, dystopia books that are similar to the vibes (not necessarily the plot) of the Hunger Games? I’ve read Dune and Ender’s Game, and loved both. So I don’t know if that helps narrow it down at all either. Read The Poppy War (didn’t like) and the Fourth Wing (eh) as well.

Sorry if that’s vague. Also, preferably looking for something more mature (not smut), but not necessarily YA, just more adult fiction/sci-fi.
