Perhaps more specific than need be but curious if others have any book recommendations for failure to launch stories in their 30s and 40s finding the courage to get up and out from under the family umbrella of unrealistic expectations, manipulation, guilt and resentments.
Thanks.

Might not quite be what you’re looking for but try Burnt Sugar by Avni Doshi — book about the toxic relationship between an Indian mother and daughter.
Well-Behaved Indian Women by Saumya Dave
It shows the struggle of 3 generations of women figuring out the burden of being a ‘perfect’ Indian woman, and one of the main characters is a daughter of immigrant parents, who kinda questions her whole life as the book proceeds.
The Heart Principle by Helen Hoang. I wouldn’t bother with the other books in the series, but this one is a gem.
Everything is beautiful and I’m not afraid
It’s a graphic novel memoir of a Chinese woman that moved to America to chase her dreams and finding peace in self identity as someone without a traditional gender identity and a bisexual sexual orientation. She ranges from 18 to her 20s in the book I think. Her parents are not immigrants but, she is.
What My Bones Know by Stephanie Foo
The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan
getting it right by Elizabeth Jane Howard.. it’s about a gentle man of around 30 who lives at home and suffers from crippling shyness. plus, he has a rather special mother.
