I’m running the authentic marathon in Greece next month, and I want to listen to a book during the race that might enhance the experience since I’ve never been to Greece before and there will be so many historical sights along the route.
I’ve been listening to a lot of fantasy during my training, but I’m sort of curious what others would choose in my position. What would you listen to if you were about to retrace the legendary route Philippides took in 490 BC?

Mythos by Stephen Fry. Narrated by Stephen Fry.
It’s the first book in a series about Greek and Roman mythology
The Road to Sparta: Reliving the Ancient Battle and Epic Run… by Dean Karnazes. He’s an ultra-marathoner himself.
But that might be too meta to listen to while running.
The Life of Greece by Will Durant
Sailing the Wine Dark Sea by Thomas Cahill. I loved his series on the origins of western civilization. I read it in print, so I’m not sure about the audiobook quality.
