I’m looking for books to read at the beach and poolside while on vacation.

It has been years since I’ve read a book, and I’m worried my attention span will be terrible, so I’m not looking for anything too dense. A collection of short stories might be ideal to ease me back into regular reading.

I love Douglas Adams & Kurt Vonnegut and would like to find another author with satirical wit like them. I’ve been recommended Tom Robbins in the past, but for some reason his books don’t hit me the same way as Adams & Vonnegut.

Terry Pratchett is another similar author I’ve enjoyed, although I’ve lost track of which of his novels I’ve read already. Neil Gaiman is another author often recommended in this same vein, although I also find him a little hit-and-miss (some of his novels like American Gods require a lot of literary knowledge to get the references and maximize understanding/enjoyment).

In terms of genres, I’ve mostly enjoyed science fiction, fantasy, and classical literature. Dune is my favorite series and The Scarlet Letter is one my favorite books. I also enjoyed the original Draglonance series by Weis & Hickman, but found some of their later works to be mediocre. I’ve heard mixed reviews of their 2022 Dragons of Deceit, so I’m not sure if that will hit a nostalgic itch or just make me miss the original novels.

Thanks in advance for any recommendations!

Like Terry Pratchett makes me think of Christopher Moore. Maybe try *The Serpent of Venice*.
