Taking a break from history books and been on a fatasy kick. I recently finished kings of the wyld. I liked it alot but there wasn’t any real consequences for the characters actions.

I finished the book thinking about the film rogue one and even the game halo reach where the protagonists are ultimately successful in their mission, but some or all of the members pay the ultimate price.

    Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance!

I haven’t read this book myself, but my ex boyfriend was always telling me about a dark fantasy book called Weaveworld. I read the synopsis there and I think it sounds like it would fit with what you’re looking for. I’ve actually downloaded it to my kindle to try too.

I always remember him saying that whatever it is that happens in that book has stayed with him for years later

Macunaima: The Hero Without Any Character by Mario de Andrade, a dark Brazilian fantasy based on Amazonian mythology

    3. The **Ember Blade by Chris Wooding** sounds right up your alley, similar Rogue one/Halo reach vibes where no character is safe and action have consequences and take sacrifice. It is set in a fantasy country that has been occupied by its stronger neighbour for decades, where a small group is trying to spark a revolution from an almost dead resistance movement.

P.S. I’d warn that the back of the book/goodreads description has some pretty hefty spoilers for the first twist of the book so be warned.
