I’ve only been to a couple of book/author events before so I’m not sure about the etiquette surrounding them.
I have a physical ARC (advanced reader copy) of a book that I received from winning a Goodreads giveaway. The author is doing an event in my city. As far as I understand, it’s going to be a conversation between the author + another author with both doing signings after.
I want to attend but I’m not sure if it will be rude to bring my ARC for them to sign afterward. I enjoyed the book but it wasn’t the best book I’ve read this year or anything so I don’t exactly want to spend $25 to be left with two copies. It’s a debut so I can’t buy a copy of another one of their books. I understand that these events are ultimately held to support the author and generate sales so it seems awkward to bring something that everyone will know I received for free.
Am I overthinking this or is it a faux pas to bring ARCs to a book signing?
