I know the hardcover vs paperback debate has been posted A LOT on here, but I can’t find anything specifically related to large books. I’m talking Stephen King’s IT, or Tolkien’s unified LOTR, or A Little Life which all have page counts exceeding 700. For a girthier book like this, is hardcover or paperback better? I know hardcover is generally more durable, but it’s also way *larger* and I don’t know if that would make such behemoth of books downright unwieldy; at the same time I don’t want to risk a book falling apart if it’s paperback sheerly because the spine can’t support all that weight.

Thoughts? Is this another matter that just comes down to preference, or is there a legitimate durability difference? I don’t usually buy large books so I really don’t know what the best choice would be.
