I studied history in school, loved it, but now feel numb at the thought of reading another dense academic work. But I don’t know any decent novels out there right now as I’ve been out of the fiction game since high school or earlier. What’s something that will bring back that old feeling I had as a kid when I happily read for hours on end, each page more thrilling than the last?

Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros is a fun, turn off your brain and just enjoy the ride kinda book. I honestly loved reading it but I would say the writing is on par with Twilight, though it has a couple sex scenes so it’s not actually YA.

Beartown by Fredrik Backman. Obsessed with this book. A heavier read (trigger warnings for sexual assault) but has amazing characters that really just made me fall in love with it.

I re-read The Hunger Games this year for the first time in a decade and they really held up. I enjoyed visiting them again, I’d forgotten more than I thought. Re-visiting an old favorite is a good way to get back into reading.

11/22/63 by Stephen King. My favorite of his. It’s not horror, it’s historical fiction. I feel like it’s hard for me to pinpoint what I loved so much about this book, I just felt so immersed and invested while reading.
