My favourite is definitely The Green Mile. The film was absolutely perfect and pretty much included everything from the book. The actors also played the characters amazingly.

My least favourite is Ready Player One. Absolutely loved the book, but hated how much they changed in the film. They pretty much changed everything. I stopped watching 2/3 of the way in. The only people I thought were perfect was Halliday and Ogden Marrow.

    What’s yours?

    1. Kind of with you on Ready Player One. Loved the book. Movie was meh at best. For me though, Lord of the Rings is the best film adaptation of a book. Specifically, The Two Towers.

    2. I loved Life of Pi. Haven’t read the book or seen the film in years but I remember being really happy with the adaptation.

The worst? A Clockwork Orange, I guess. I loved the book and I loved the film, but I didn’t think it was a faithful adaptation at all. But I’m also of the mind that it’s okay if a film or TV show adaptation varies from the book – they are two different art forms and can be enjoyable as standalone works.

Any opinions here on Cloud Atlas? I hated the movie but just bought the book – it’s on my TBR pile because I’ve heard good reviews.

Favorite … Jaws. Pretty good book, but Spielberg turned it into a masterpiece.
Least Favorite … Starship Troopers. Sci-Fi classic becomes sexist dumbed down teen crap.

    4. I love the film adaptation of Annihilation. I was skeptical when I heard it was being made into a movie, but I appreciated that Alex Garland took the story and kind of did his own thing with it, because I feel like trying to make a 100% faithful adaptation would have led to disappointment. It’s a good sci-fi movie on its own, and it has all the best parts of the book in it.

I absolutely HATED The Mothman Prophecies. In my opinion, they took a really interesting story and made it into the same old “my wife died” boring mystery story that’s been made a million times. They left out all the most interesting parts of the story and it was just not a good movie. A podcast I used to listen to related to paranormal stuff had the guy who wrote the screenplay on once and then started inviting him onto a bunch of episodes and I stopped listening because I couldn’t stand him 😂
