How many unread books do you have on the shelf? Why do you think this is?
Hi! I’m just curious if you guys have the same problem as me… I own over 30 books that I intended to read but I am either thinking that it’s about lacking time (which is not true) or I just can’t pick one book to read as commitment.
If this is not true let me know too to get the conversation started!

last time I checked it was 80 something 🫣 they’ll be read eventually
You all can count them?
647 on my electronic TBR lists.
But only about 40 in my dead tree library.
A few dozen on ebooks probably. At least 100 in physical books.
As to why? Impulse buys, but also, I buy things that interest me with the intentions to read it, I just need to be in the right mood for it.
I just got rid of about 300 books, around 200 unread. I probably have another hundred or so that I haven’t read.
If you bought wisely, and didn’t buy many to satisfy some weird temporary phase you were going through, you’ll get to them eventually. It may be as you enter retirement or run up on a distressing out-of-work phase but they’ll be there when you need them most.
I’m curating a substantial audiobook collection. Most of what I acquire I can/have easily enjoy again, over and over after a spell. But I also probably have 30 or 40 I haven’t listened to but know eventually I will when I stop my long term buying phase. Some of them are just waiting on me to come into that certain “mood”.
Over 400 in print and 1,500 as e-books and about 115 audiobooks
Maybe 30.
Physically the paperbacks and hardcovers I own I read them all but ebooks and TBRs I have like 20+ unread/unfinished books
Probably about 20. They each really have a time and place to read. I try not to have too many unreads. Similarly, I only keep my read books if I really loved them.
I have 23 and just bought a release.
Those aren’t ready yet because I read faster digitally and last year I bought more than 40 books on sale
I have 8 bookcases that are mostly full, no book goes onto the bookcase until I’ve read it and decided if I want to keep it or not. All books to be read are in a stack by my bed, there are three in the stack currently. Will be 2 by end of the weekend. Even with my craft and recipe books, I read through them and put tabs all through for projects/ideas/recipes I definitely want to try in the near future so I can see them at a glance from the shelf.
I use the library exclusively so I don’t own any books I haven’t read.
