I watched “a social dilemma” on Netflix back in May. Since then, I’ve made an effort to reduce my screen time considerably. I quit all my social media (not Reddit) cold turkey and picked up hobbies (reading being one of them).

It was going extremely well for the first four months, but then I moved cross country and slipped up in the month of September because I was having issues adjusting. My partner pointed my slip up out and gave me a few light hearted reads, which ignited my flame again.

I’ve officially read 25 bucks since May! This feels like an incredible milestone for me – aka someone who before this hasn’t read a single book since freshman year of college many moons ago.

Some things I’ve noticed when I’m in periods of high reading are that I’m less anxious and less depressed. I feel more accomplished and energetic. It also makes working a job I don’t like a little more bearable. My relationship with my partner has also improved (not that it was bad or struggling, we’re just able to connect in a new way. One of her degrees is in comparative literature and she can read about 10 books to my 1 book so it’s a fun way to connect).

Anyways, reading is great and I’m excited to join this sub!

How are you choosing what to read? Does your partner recommend books for you still?
