I have a very complicated relationship with my mother, it took me a long time to understand that this has been affecting me negatively. I am healing in my way, also thanks to my supportive spouse and my wonderful children. So this topic is close to my heart, I avoided the topic deliberately for years because I wasn’t sure if it would trigger me.
**I want to read fiction that deals with complicated relationships between mothers and children, especially daughters.** The **prose** must be good, **subtle treatment** preferred over melodramatic. Again, not mandatory but it would be good if there is either equal focus on both or more focus on the daughter/son character. **I don’t want to story to stamp any of the characters as a textbook psychopath/sociopath/ narcissist.**
To set a little context, my mother had a rough childhood and no positive mother figures were there for her.
Note – I am **not** looking to read on this topic for any help in my healing or to understand the situation.
Please be kind in your comments.
My favorite authors/books – Claire Keegan, Daphne Du Maurier, GRRM, David Mitchell, God of Small Things, etc.
