I’ve been trying to get back into reading after years out of it. I’d like to get back to fiction eventually but currently I’m finding information non-fiction much more accessible.
I like books that source their information, give an overview of current debates in their field, focus on a ciritique of a particular concept, and/or otherwise inform the reader without being as unreliable or surface level as many pop-sci books are. I’m not afraid of complicated or in depth topics, niche lingo or concepts, etc. I basically read research papers for fun in my spare time.
Im interested in anything in sciences or statistics, ancient history, social justice etc. not as big on “modern history”, particularly the WW eras, and it would take some convincing to get me into philosophy.
Some books I’ve enjoyed in this vein:
Expecting Better by Emily Oster
High and Mighty: the dangerous rise of the SUV by Keith Bradsher
The invention of Capitalism by Michael Perelman
What if by Randall Munroe
