I tried googling this question and came upon a few posts with people suggesting things like Dune and The Martian, which I can personally attest were *not* what I’d consider ‘approachable’ lol. Certainly amazing reads that are worth the effort, but I haven’t read for fun in years- I want something that doesn’t feel like I have to fight with it to get through it. I haven’t read many fiction books as an adult, so the only good example I can give of my version of approachable is The Hobbit and The Eyes of the Dragon. I found the language easily digestible and the world-building wasn’t too convoluted to wrap my head around.
I find a lot of ‘classic’ books have this type of language that’s very confusing. Not in the sense of using big words I don’t know, but in the sense of *how* they word things; it sounds old-timey. It’s hard to explain, but I remember Dune being like this. Though I read it in high school when I didn’t know what a concubine was, so, maybe it’d be better now lol.
