One of my favorite types of books are Sci-Fi that involve some sort of discovery or exploring. I enjoy the intrigue, the discovery, the mystery, etc.

    A few examples:

    * **Annihilation – Jeff Vandermeer** \- crazy book and series, and so much to unpack
    * **Three Body Problem – Liu Cixin** \- one of my favorite series of all time. The ending to each of these books (especially the Dark Forest) were mind blowing
    * **Sphere/Congo – Michael Crichton** \- a lot of people dislike these, but I love both of these. (I like a lot of Crichton, but these are my favorite).
    * **2001: A Space Odyssey/Rendezvous with Rama – Arthur C Clark** \- I find Arthur C Clark has fascinating concepts, but has super dry writing. I wish he would have just given a list of his story ideas to somebody else who knew how to write well.
    * **Gone World – Tom Sweterlitsch** \- holy smokes, this book is nuts. Need to read this again.

I’m generally not a big fan of space opera books (like Dune), although there are handful of exceptions (like Ender’s Game).

What else should I add to my list?

If you enjoyed Ender’s Game. You might like his other series. Pathfinder series. It “feels” like fantasy. But its a lot more than that. And the discovery and exploration is the fun part of this series.
