I’m looking for a book about Russian revolution of 1905. But since I’m not really familiar with Russian history, I would also like to read a book about brief modern Russian history. Thanks for any recommendation!
The Romanov Empress: A Novel of Tsarina Maria Feodorovna is a novel, not a proper history book, but it was easy to read and the basic facts/dates are correct.

For fiction I highly rec Doctor Zhivago by Boris Pasternak which takes place between the Russian Revolution of 1905 and World War II. It’s depiction of the time was, and is quite controversial. The story of how Pasternak got it published and it’s subsequent popularity is also interesting.

I really enjoyed The Romanovs by Simon Sebag Montefiore – it’s non-fiction but highly readable 🙂

His [A People’s Tragedy: The Russian Revolution](https://www.amazon.com/Peoples-Tragedy-Russian-Revolution-1891-1924/dp/014024364X/ref=sr_1_1?crid=1F5GYP34DXDZ6&keywords=A+People%27s+Tragedy%3A+The+Russian+Revolution&qid=1696347489&sprefix=a+people%27s+tragedy+the+russian+revolution+%2Caps%2C122&sr=8-1) is also a good read.
