Hi! I would love to read a book about animals (any kind) that is approachable. I love animals in general and want to deepen my knowledge about mammals, birds, amphibians, fish, cephalopods, etc.
However, my biggest pet peeve is when the author posits the book as something sciencey but it’s actually a memoir. This happens a LOT with books about birds but it seems like any animal book I’ve tried has a memoir component. The most recent example was Beaver Land by Leila Philip. H is for Hawk is another one. I’m sorry but I want to learn about, like, animal behavior- not the time the author’s car broke down but then they had some hot chocolate and saw a hawk. Ugh! Lol.
I’d like something that’s about animals, but isn’t a textbook and takes storytelling/approachable writing into consideration. So many books that meet that initial criteria are also memoirs. Do you have any book recommendations?
