Hey friends
Recently my partner has been going through a rough time – isolation, grief over loss of a parent, depression, body image issues. I’ve been supporting them through it as much as I can in as many ways as I can, but it’s hard in its own RIGHT. I’m taking care of myself, but I’m looking for any sort of novel about someone in my position – where the MC is trying to help other people and feeling the weight of supporting others.
I had a past career as a type of community-based mental health counselor, and I worked with a lot of folks in difficult spots. This is a familiar role to me. What’s coming to mind is honestly Catcher in the Rye, but ideally there’s something else about an adult living through that emotional space.
I found Rene Denfeld 2 years ago and loved her works – if that’s a useful reference point. Also a big fan of Anne Patchett, Brandon Sanderson, Susanna Clarke, Emily St. John Mandel,
