Can anyone suggest to me good modern mystery writers or books?
I have read most of Christie and Le Carre and tried a few of the modern authors like Harlen Coben and Lisa Jewell. While some of their work has been decent, they seem shorter and more basic like TV episode.

One of the more interesting, different and enjoyable mystery novels I’ve come across recently is *The Seven (and a half) Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle* by Stuart Turton. The detective finds himself switching between different bodies every day, with an assassin chasing him down as he attempts to solve the future murder of another character. May not be exactly what you’re after, but certainly deserves a mention.

How about The City and the City by China Mieville or Fatherland by Robert Harris? One is scifi mixed with mystery and the other is alt history mixed with mystery.
