I’m a fan of Roberto Bolaño (2666, Nazi Literature in the Americas, Distant Star), William Faulkner (Absalom, Absalom!), Ryszard Kapuscinski (The Emperor), John McPhee (Coming into the Country, Curve of Binding Energy), and W.G. Sebald (Rings of Saturn, Emigrants). I’m looking for books dealing with similar themes, topics, and settings, which can be fiction or non-fiction, and which are well-researched and rich in their sense of history and place.

Lore Segal, Other people’s houses
She did not need to research it, she was there.
