I’m looking for horror, fantasy, fiction.
I really enjoy the duality of ‘normal’ versus ‘the beast inside.’ Also interested in pack dynamics and heirarchy shenanigans. I can take or leave gore and/or romance subplots.
Here are a list of books I’ve read and loved/hated and why:
The Others by Anne Bishop -A whole world of shifters? I reread this series every few years.
Frostbite/Overwinter – David Wellington -A bleak isolation horror that stayed with me, but probably won’t read again.
Such Sharp Teeth – Rachel Harrison -Didn’t really stay with me, which is a shame because I love her other works.
Mongrels – Stephen Graham Jones -An incredibly compelling slice-of-life horror take. Love his writing.
Mercy Thompson/Alpha & Omega by Patricia Briggs -Absolutely the type of pack dynamics I LOVE to read about!
Otherworld by Kelley Armstrong -Urban fantasy with Were side characters that are incredibly important to the story. Fun for what it is.
Who’s Afraid – Maria Lewis -This Australian author takes us all over the world in this UF series.
Wolfsong – TJ Klune -A spectacular gay romance UF series. Heart-melting and I only want to feel like this sometimes!
Gil’s All Fright Diner – A Lee Martinez -An apocalyptic horror-comedy that I frequently revisit.
Bride – Ali Hazelwood – An alternate-history romance that was…fun in its way. Loved the pack in it.
The Pack – Jason Starr -The most boring werewolf book I’ve ever finished.
The Wolves are Watching – Natalie Lund -A YA novel about wolf women who live in the woods and want to grow their numbers… delicious.
Empire of Wild – Cherie Dimaline -A literary horror using religion and lots of Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing references. Intriguing tale.
Books I own/know of that I plan to read:
Cycle of the Werewolf – Stephen King
The Bite – ZW Taylor
Organ Meats – K-Ming Chang
I would love some fierce recommendations. 😉
