Hi y’all. I’m a gay man and I wanna find more gay romance books. All the ones I’ve found or have been recommended to me so far have either been toxic relationships, really sad, or the same two books/book series that I listed in the titled. Both of which I’m going to read eventually, but I’d like some other options.

Any genre is fine, but I’d prefer something more lighthearted and not just sad the whole way through. Smutty books are fine too, I just wanna read something new.

    Thanks 🙂

One of my favorite books is Aristotle and dante discover the secrets of the universe. It is very much a very wholesome book. It’s one of two books that I reread constantly.

Wolfsong by TJ Klune is so wholesome too. It’s a fantasy that has werewolves.

Someday Someday by Emma Scott- this is an adult romance, and it is so unbelievably underrated. It does have sad parts, but it has a happy ending 😌

The House in the Cerulean Sea by T.J. Klune

      Boyfriend Material by Alexis Hall

Alexis Hall has written quite a few gay romcom-type stories that are fun and easy to read (some with a bit of sexy times). I liked Boyfriend Material (modern day) and Something Fabulous (Regency era), also the Billionaire trilogy.

I don’t know what you think of the Asian BL market (if you know anything about it) but there are some really good Chinese stories now being translated officially. Because of the situation with censorship in China, and maybe because these are novels rather than manhua (comics), they often have really strong plotlines and it just happens that the main characters end up being gay for each other and falling madly in love as they deal with the main plot. Some of them do have sexy times as well (though any adaptations will cut all the gayness out).

Mo Dao Zu Shi/Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation (5-volume series) by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu is one of the best known (and fully translated), as well as their other two stories Tian Guan Ci Fu/Heaven Official’s Blessing (8 volumes) and Scum Villian’s Self-saving System (I can’t even begin to remember the Chinese title, lol, but it’s 4 volumes). All are fantasy adventures.

In the Dark by Jin Shisi Chai (three volumes) is a favorite of mine, though not much talked about. It’s a modern-day fringe science/thriller/mystery about a detective who was undercover with a drug kingpin and now is trying to reintegrate as a normal cop and the mysterious new forensic artist he’ll be working with.

Try The Will Darling Adventures by KJ Charles. 1920s setting, pulpy spy thriller. Really enjoyable characters, good sense of humor, smutty, definitely not depressing.
