My 8 year old daughter loves graphic novels (Calvin & Hobbes in particular) but we’re running out of different series to read that she enjoys. We are trying to venture into chapter books to broaden the options.

Any recommendations for chapter books that still have some pictures in them? She seems to get overwhelmed when it’s just words.

I’m not sure if she’s into Pokémon at all (my son loves it) but they have a bunch of different series of books. He’s got a series of chapter books that have one pic per chapter (a chapter being about 5 pages) and he also has another series of what I’d call comic books which are more like the Calvin & Hobbes.

The Berenstain Bears also have a series of chapter books (20 chapters each about 4 pages per chapter) that have a lot of pictures and the print is larger

    2. Sheets is an adorable comic and has a sequel called Delicates.

There are also little graphic novels for kids called Magic Tree House by Mary Pope Osborne.

I also want to add that at that age, my favorite books were the National Geographic animal books or other wildlife books like The Smithsonian’s animals books. They have all the drawings or pictures of the animals with so much information and facts that as a kid, I LOVED learning and knowing. There are similar things if your kid prefers things like plants or rocks?

I love hearing of kids so young enjoying books and reading. I hope you find something she falls in love with!

    3. The ‘Kitty’ series, starting with [‘Kitty and the Moonlight Rescue’](https://www.waterstones.com/book/kitty-and-the-moonlight-rescue/paula-harrison/jenny-lovlie/9780192771650), is very cute :3

[Holly Webb](https://www.waterstones.com/author/holly-webb/52878) has some good books for this age group too, and I enjoyed books by [Dick King-Smith](https://www.waterstones.com/author/dick-king-smith/55076) and [Roald Dahl](https://www.waterstones.com/author/roald-dahl/46094) at her age 🙂

    4. Harriet the Hamster Princess books by Ursula Vernon! Also Castle Hangnail, Dragonbreath, and Nurk.

Marvel put out some great graphic novel adaptations of L. Frank Baum’s Oz series.

I’d also highly recommend Bea Wolf by Zach Wienersmith and Boulet. It’s a great kid friendly riff on Beowulf.
