Spoilers below !!
I just finished lonesome dove a few hours ago and I can not stop thinking of it. These characters are so incredibly human, this novel really does just feel like a chunk of an event and I love that. There are no heroes here, these are just normal people in a normal story, and that’s reflected so well by the ending essentially just cutting off in the middle of a conversation.
Every death is felt, every storm makes you feel soaked in run or covered in dust, the last 100 pages are a series of heartbreaks. Easily one of my favorite novels ever

I know, right? It’s the best. But for some reason everyone who I’ve recommended it to irl hated it and couldn’t get past 40 pages. :c
I felt the same way. Really missed the characters after finishing. The other books in the series helped, but none were as good or engaging.
