So, I’m looking for a book where the protagonist grew up in a narcissistic family. The father or mother was too egotistical. The little girl had no freedom even as she stepped into her twenties. So she worked hard to get a job and left the city. But her emotionally manipulated childhood followed her wherever she went. She was physically far from her parents but the stronghold they had over her emotions was too overwhelming. As she grew up, she understood the “worldly sacrifices” her parents had made for her, in terms of finances and all. Her parents didn’t exactly hate her, it’s just that some people shouldn’t be parenting a child. Maybe that’s what narcissism is. As she nears her 30s, she realizes the childhood she has lost and even though she doesn’t want to waste her remaining years in repentance, she can’t let go of it. Her voice wavers till today when her dad shouts at her over the phone, she can’t go NC as they can make her life hell, nor can she love them ever. She understands why she is the way she is, why she can’t form bonds with anyone else in society.
