Hello everyone new to the community. Used to be an occasional reader untill my mid twenties. Ten years later I want to take it up again and was looking for some recommendations.
Here’s some likes and dislikes.
I absolutely loves the writing style of Daniel handler or rather Lemony snicket specific persona. Loved the dry pessimistic satire and pseudo ARG content.
Harry Potter was a pleasant read. Liked the world building and sense of wonder but disliked how nothing makes sense.
I like psychological analisys when done right, clockwork orange bein a good example.
My favorite author however is Michael Ende ( neverending story, momo) symbolic representations of the psyche is a big draw for me. Also love the persona games and evangelion series for the same reason.
In rare occasions I like self help, but it’s hard to weed out pseudoscience and all that fluff. I liked no more.mr nice guy and the art of war , in a way I consider it self help.
Books I couldn’t finish are
A house of leaves, I just found it boring and relying on gimmicks too much
Three body problem, not to offend any one but boy the characters were braindead.
Dante’s comedy. Just too slow and relied in politics too much.
Themes i.like are psychology, science fiction, complex storytelling that doesn’t drag the story, anything that creates a sense of wonder like inventive creatures, concepts , different worlds etc.
I dislike complex politics, non fiction, romance, things that make no logical sense or inconsistency without explanation, classical stuff on the account of being predictable and sometimes the language, slow storytelling with no pay off.
Thanks for reading! Any clarification please ask
