I remember reading “The Lost Fleet” by Jack Campbell when I was a teen. The series is all about space combat, with a big focus on the logistics of it and on internal fleet cohesion. Then the space battles themselves were quite enjoyable. I’d summarise them as “lots of waiting and maneuvering to set up favorable (extremely short) engagements, without any FtL comms or FtL scanning”. The actual engagements themselves happen so fast that humans can’t even participate beyond making sure the machines are on. It’s all about the maneuvering and politicking, not about hotshot flying or whatever.
Unfortunately The Lost Fleet itself isn’t actually very good. I remember disliking the love story (and the gender roles throughout), the worldbuilding, and the rather uninteresting space culture.
Does anyone have recommendations for me ?
