I like a lot of Ann Patchett’s writing, and I didn’t know anything about Tom Lake, but I put it on my Libby ebook list, and the audiobook became available about a week ago. It’s a bit like Little Women, but set on a cherry farm in Michigan during the pandemic: a strong family with three daughters, a story that has emotional depth but isn’t in any way scary or violent. And the audiobook is read by the incomparable Meryl Streep, who brings every character to life with different voices, cadences, etc.. If anyone is looking for a kind, comforting read (being a lover of Michigan is definitely a plus), I’d highly recommend it. I’m curious to hear if others have read it, and if you did, what you thought about it. I also think it handles the pandemic and issues like climate change with a lot of grace.
