Before I begin describe why, I know these are two very dissimilar books. I’m not the best reader and it takes me years to read a book. I just recently finished Dune after like two years. So I’m looking for a shorter book, Dune was BIG but Handmaids Tale, which I’ve also read, was nicely sized. These two are definitely my favourite books I’ve ever read. And I’ve just also read a lot of Star Wars books so I definitely know there’s better books out there, I just need help finding them.
What I’m looking for, like Dune and Handmaids Tale, is a story with rich world building or an alternate future. I loved Handmaids Tales world of Gilead and slowly uncovering the world’s history like the colonies and the pages where June would go into the cities with the Commander and hearing its lore.
Also Dune’s world building is so good, I mean that’s what it’s famed for. Arrakis is an insanely rich world. I love the politics that went into it and same with Handmaids Tale.
So I guess something with a really cool and interesting, dark dystopian world, whether that’s a sci-fi or a modern telling. I feel like I might enjoy The Man In The High Castle.
