We have most of the iconic baby books (Dr. Seuss, Wild things, Giving tree, etc), and are in search of some lesser known, but good baby books. Any suggestions are appreciated.
Some I can recommend that we love are:
Gumpy Monkey by Suzanne Lang
Diggersaurus by Michael Whaite.

Five Little Fingers and Five Little Toes by Helen Oxenbury.
Grandfather Twilight by Barbara Berger.
The Maggie B. by Irene Haas.
Charlie Parker Played Be Bop by Chris Raschka.
Behowl the Moon and Wild Waves Whist, gorgeous board book excerpts of Shakespeare plays
All Sandra Boynton
Goodnight Goon possibly better than Goodnight Moon
Bathe the Cat is just darn good fun
We loved the McDuff books. Also check out Linley Dodd, she has written some lovely books.
The Gruffalo and The Gruffalo’s Child. Room on the Broom
Each Peach Pear Plum by Janet and Allan Ahlberg
The Ahlbergs are great, generally – Jolly Postman is incredible for toddlers and younger children (once they’ve got good fine motor control, basically)
Christopher Pumpkin- more of a Halloween book, but it’s hilarious.
Steam Train, Dream Train- a nice bedtime story. My kids love it. Also, Goodnight, Goodnight Construction Site by the same authors.
Anything by Audrey and Don Wood (The Napping House; The Little Mouse, the Red Ripe Strawberry and the Big Hungry Bear; Quick as a Cricket)- beautiful illustrations and nice, calm stories.
Little Blue Truck- a classic for younger kids
The Z Was Zapped by Chris Van Allsburg. I loved the artwork. He did the book Jumanji and The Polar Express. Another good one was Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs by Judi Barrett. Again, I loved the artwork. My all time favorite book was Little Rabbit’s Loose Tooth by Lucy Bate.
The Dragon books by Dav Pilkey (of Captain Underpants fame). They’re originally from the 90s and were out of print for a while but have been brought back in the last few years to purchase new. He’s sort of an Amelia Bedelia character that bumbles through life in a funny way, like he’s groggy in the morning so he reads his egg and fries his newspaper. Dragon Gets By, Dragon’s Fat Cat and Dragon’s Merry Christmas are my faves. A Friend for Dragon deserves a word of caution 😅 he decides an apple is his friend, takes it to the doctor when he thinks it’s sick and someone eats it, he buries the core and then it does grow into a tree and drop him a new apple but kind of low key traumatizing 😬
