I’ve read 20 books so far, such as “The Little Prince,” “The Giver,” and the Harry Potter series. Overall, it went well; there were certainly unfamiliar words, but I didn’t stop much to look them up because I have an intermediate level of English that allows me to read comfortably.
However, when I attempted to read a book that I thought was geared towards teenagers called The Great Gatsby, as it had been highly recommended to me, I encountered numerous unfamiliar words like “marred,” “unsought,” “marshes,” “gulls,” etc. This left me feeling somewhat disappointed.
All the books I’ve read thus far have been audiobooks, which allowed me to listen and read simultaneously. However, with this particular book, I find myself pausing the audiobook six or seven times per page. Although I’m using a Kindle device, which provides word meanings, the hassle of pausing the audiobook to check each word is frustrating.
Should I abandon this book, or should I embrace the challenge?
