I just finished Divine Rivals and Ruthless Vows by Rebecca Ross and I feel slightly bereft now, not knowing what to read!
Please suggest a book that is not necessarily similar, but hopefully has (at least some of) the following qualities:
[Possible spoilers ahead]
-Beautifully written, sometimes almost lyrical, and well edited.
-Interesting world building even if it’s not in depth.
-Main characters that are strong but can be vulnerable. Both Iris and Roman had moment where they took charge, and the fact that both let the other do so was nice.
-A love story in which the conflict is NOT between the two characters. I adored how the two main characters always showed each other respect/love, even when they were “rivals.”
-Jumping of the previous point, I loved how achingly sweet it was when the two main characters interacted.
-The heartbreak of their separation really made me feel. I’m down to have that sort of thing, as long as it resolves with them together and happy in the end.
-I am fine with any “spiciness” level (I don’t need it, but I’m also not squeamish), but I appreciated how Rebecca Ross was able to convey deep intimacy between the characters.
-I definitely would like romance in it, as per my previous points, but I like when it is just showcased along with another interesting plot.
-Side characters that seemed like they were full fledged characters, even if we didn’t know everything about them/the feeling that the side characters existed even when not with the main characters.
-I’m feeling a more modern setting right now. I liked the vaguely WWII era vibe, but anything with electricity or later. I could be convinced to read a Gothic fantasy sort with the science fiction-y sort of electricity as long as the the men are not misogynistic.
I know this is a fairly specific list, as mentioned above, I don’t need all of the points represented, but they’re the things I enjoyed about Divine Rivals and Ruthless Vows.
Thank yooou!
