Books with Criminal Underworlds right under our noses, like John Wick

I’m looking for a book/series with a similar energy to John Wick. Not necessarily a revenge plot, but a thriving, deep rooted, and connected criminal underworld with a capable and respected protagonist that is embedded in the underworld. I have been reading Jack Ryan, Splinter Cell, Reacher, The Gray Man, Terminal List, so the overarching military fantasy settings are getting a little repetitive.

I have seen a couple of threads asking similar things, but I haven’t seen a series that I have not already read, or is outside of what I’m looking for. So, I figured I’d throw my hat in the ring and see what I get!

Other things I’ve been looking for are books with protagonists like David Fincher’s “The Killer” which I enjoyed both the graphic novel and the movie. I enjoy the cold, calculating nature of the main character. Im itching for some stories like all I’ve stated above, but without the military and politics. On the other side of the law lol.
