Returning with my customary every couple of years post to see if anything even remotely like this exists. I’m basically looking for something along the lines of Holly Black’s TFotA or Modern Faerie Tales, but geared more towards adults. I love Holly Black’s gritty backdrops and the way she really stays true to Celtic faerie lore canon, but I would prefer something a bit more aged up and mature. I am specifically looking for standalone or series about the Fae, but I suppose I’m not terribly opposed if someone has a suggestion of something else which may scratch the itch.
Books Which Do Not Scratch the Itch:
– War for the Oaks
– Jack the Giant Killer
– ACOTAR or anything ACOTAR-esque (no hate, just prefer a more mature writing style).
– That one adult book Holly Black wrote which I can’t recall the name of
– I tried hard to get into things like Poppy Wars and Priory of the Orange Tree but just not for me
Books Which Scratch AN Itch of Sorts but are obviously not what I’m seeking because what I’m seeking does not to my knowledge yet exist:
– Kushiel’s series by Jacqueline Carey (these books were so good if I could find something like this about the Fae I’d die happy)
– The Malazan Book of the Fallen series
– Anne Rice’s Vampire and Witches of Mayfair sagas
– Anita Blake series before it fell off which was sadly right around the time she took the gentry arc
– ASoIaF
– Lord of the Rings
– The Elderling series by something something Hobbs (I enjoyed but am blanking on the name and actual series name rn)
– Deathless by Katherynne Valente
– I enjoy Alice Hoffman books in general
– That Addie LaRue book was pretty good
Anyway my point here is I love a good worldbuilding, full-fledged fantasy epic but I am begging one to be set in a world with Fae and the like
