I’ve been reading a LOT of fiction (Joe Abercrombie, anyone?) lately and I want to take a break and learn something new in the process.

What are your favorite non-fiction books for history and/or philosophy?

HISTORY – I LOVE history, so I am eager for any era or topic (but, in particular, any books about the rise of nationalism or the Third Reich and Germany’s political landscape shift pre-World War II would be appreciated – I see so many discussions about modern-day parallels and I want to be smarter on the subject).

PHILOSOPHY – I’m open to anything and everything; to borrow a quote from my favorite subreddit, “opinions are like pro wrestling matches: subject to change.” I’m looking for anything new or interesting to you, or something that challenged you, from any philosophical school of thought, modern or classic.
