Hi y’all! I am an avid reader who has historically preferred reading fiction over non-fiction. Early in life, I gave some biographies a try and did not find them to be compelling reads. I found them boring and dry and seldom finished reading them. Because of this, I thought I did not enjoy biographies.
However, as part of my book club, I read *Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption* and *The Boys in the Boat: Nine Americans and Their Epic Quest for Gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics.* On the recommendation of a friend, I also recently read *Wonder Drug: The Secret History of Thalidomide in America and Its Hidden Victims*.
I enjoyed all of these books greatly! I could not put down *Wonder Drug* and read all 358 pages in just two days. I can’t recommend it highly enough.
And so, I think the reality is that I enjoy biographies more than I thought I did — but they must be compelling, well-written accounts.
So now I turn to all of you. What biographies would you recommend to someone who definitely leans toward fiction and is wading cautiously into the pool of biographies? I enjoy most subjects and especially love to learn. No topic is off-limits.
