I just finished the book “Masters of the Air” and really enjoyed it. I’m looking for books similar to it. It can be about almost any war or about any angle of a conflict.
The books referenced in the “Trilogy” Spielberg/Hanks are Band of Brothers by Stephen Ambrose, With the Old Breed by Eugene Sledge, and A Helmet for my Pillow by Robert Leckie. All are excellent but my favorite would be Sledge’s.
Days of Steel Rain focuses on a vengeance ship Astoria in 44-45 and was attacked by Kamazazies during Okinawa.
If you wanna tackle some longer books about the Pacific, Ian W Toll’s Pacific War trilogy is excellent. It’s obviously a much larger scope compared to something like MOTA but it provides such great perspective on the Pacific Theater. The Pacific Crucible is the first book.
