Looking for your basic easy to read, but pretty complete guide to the Bible and the Apocrypha. Something that answers questions like who wrote each book, when was it written, how was the canon formed, what is the historical context for each book. The Harper collins study bible has most of this information in the foreword of this each book, including the Apocrypha .
You can get a complete set of the 12 volume interpreter’s Bible off eBay for like $100 or less. There is no substitute.
