Early 20th century novels with on and off again (non traditional )relationships
I’m trying to find a novel where the romantic relationship or relationships are not the entire focus of the plot, the protagonist pursues their life but when the circumstances align the partnerships are profound/genuine.

To Sail Beyond The Sunset is from 1987, but it’s about the fictional life of a woman born in 1882, and it’s full of non-traditional relationships
Lewis Grassic Gibbon: Sunset Song (1932)
